New Alex Radus Single–We Can’t Play Like Django--drops March 4.

Singer/songwriter Alex Radus releases his new single, We Can’t Play Like Django on March 4.  Django is the lead single for Radus’ full length release, Tributaries (Recorded Live at Godfrey Daniels), out April 7.

A fan favorite and staple closer for Radus’ live shows, We Can’t Play Like Django is a lighthearted creation myth of the celebrated jazz manouche (gypsy jazz) guitarist, Django Reinhardt.  Django invokes the spirit of Reinhardt’s Minor Swing, and features infectious hot club rhythms and jaw-dropping improvisational performances by jazz manouche quartet, Pyrenesia.  “And of course, the song celebrates the lament of Django-inspired guitarists everywhere–we can’t play like him!”

In addition to the driving la pompe rhythm, “Django” is driven by compelling storytelling. It tells a fictional “fan art” origin story of Reinhardt’s life, and how he came to be one of the most influential guitarists in jazz history.

This live version of “Django” introduces a global audience to Radus’ captivating live performances, transporting them to an intimate listening room for a compelling story set to an unforgettable jazz manouche soundtrack.

Radus will mark the release of Tributaries with a debut performance at Zoellner Arts Center at Lehigh University.  Special guest Pyrenesia.

Bio

Alex Radus’ music draws from across the American songwriting spectrum and beyond, leapfrogging genres and blurring the lines between them. An award-winning and critically acclaimed singer/songwriter, Radus hails from Pennsylvania’s artistically rich Lehigh and Delaware River Valley region.

Radus began his career as the Y chromosome in the Americana duo, duende, which toured extensively, playing some of the country’s best listening rooms. In the early aughts, duende became a staple of Alphabet City’s Anti-Folk scene at the Sidewalk Café, where Radus performed alongside some of NYC’s best up-and-coming and established songwriters, including Regina Spektor, the Moldy Peaches and Chris Barron.

Radus is known as a “sultry crooner” (The City Paper) and a “master guitarist” (Courier News), but his songwriting always takes center stage. An adept composer across diverse genres, Radus pairs whimsical and poignant storytelling with a sophisticated mix of Americana, swing, blues, folk, Anti-folk, country and more.

Radus’ music and performances have been featured on radio, film and television, including three songs featured in 2018’s Adolescence, directed by Ashley Avis (Black Beauty). His discography includes: Jewels & Tinware (“creative, original…perfect” – Steel Notes Magazine); Love Me Like You Hate Me (“impressive…eerie, intense and wonderful” – The Morning Call); and duende (“a fluid, melodic hybrid of roots music” – The Village Voice). Most recently, Radus released a self-titled, debut album with his alt rock project, Hot4Robot (“a brilliant vision…a multi-layered, adventurous soundscape” – Underground Music Collective). His upcoming album, Tributaries, was recorded live at the legendary listening room, Godfrey Daniels (to be released April 7, 2022).

The Alex Radus Trio features Daniel Manchester (Pyrenesia) on upright bass and Charlie Heim (Johnny Showcase; Martha Graham Cracker; Grady Hoss and the Sidewinders) on drums. A staple of the eastern PA music scene, Radus is a frequent performer at the region’s best festivals and venues, including Musikfest, Zoellner Arts Center, Godfrey Daniels, Steelstacks, World Cafe Live and more.
