Alex Radus: Home
I am honored to be performing at NJ Performing Arts Center the weekend of June 6th and 7th, 2009. The show, The Butterfly Project, will benefit children’s cancer research. I will be performing the show’s theme song, "Stay Forever," which I wrote specifically for The Butterfly Project. Please read more below or visit www.childrenscancer.org/butterflyproject/ for additional information.
Loosely based on the book Butterbird, a family-friendly stage show called The Butterfly Project is being co-produced by NJAC and Children’s Cancer Research Fund. This original musical follows a classmate of a child who’s dying on his journey to find the perfect caterpillar for his friend. He encounters a series of insects along the way, each portrayed by a different NJ-based dance company. The score—also an original—is comprised of pieces by NJ-based musicians. Andrea Kramer and Shara Reichwald of NJAC are coordinating all efforts.

Beyond publishing and production costs, eighty-five percent of book sales and stage proceeds will be donated to Children’s Cancer Research Fund to pursue their goal of eradicating childhood cancer with the remaining fifteen percent donated to Matheny’s Arts Access Program. In this way, Christopher’s memory will live on by helping other people facing medical challenges.

The music of Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter, Alex Radus, is difficult to describe in conventional genre terms. Coming from the songwriting school that versatility is a Good Thing, his newest release, LoveMeLikeYouHateMe, spans the gulf from Americana TrashCan Blues, to Post-Folk, Acoustic SadBastard and Country Noir. Fans have added their two cents over the years with “Jeff Buckley meets Ryan Adams,” and “Chet Baker meets Tom Waits over a cup of coffee with Martin Sexton...”
